A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD double amputee is showing that her differences won't hold her back. Daisy-May Demetre, from Birmingham, UK was born with a condition called fibular hemimelia, a birth defect where part or all of the fibular bone in the leg is missing. In Daisy?s case she had one tiny fibular bone in one leg and on the other side it was completely missing. With Daisy's balance and mobility affected, Alex and Claire (Daisy?s mum) decided the best option was for their daughter to have below the knee amputations on both legs. After her operation, Daisy was fitted with prosthetic legs, and learnt to walk, run, jump - and more in them. Alex set up an Instagram account for Daisy, and following the attention she received they applied to Zebedee Management, a modelling agency for diverse models. وفي هذا الصدد، قالت إيني هيغوس-بويرون، وهي أيضا مصممة الأزياء الرئيسية في لولو و جيجي كوتو، إن :”ديزي ماي ستكون أول طفلة مبتورة الساقين بالكامل تسير في عرض رسمي في نيويورك”.
وأضافت:”سُئلت عن رأيي في مشاركة شخص مبتور الساقين في عروضي. وللأمانة فقد فاجأني السؤال. بالنسبة لي، فإن الطفل طفل، وبالتالي فهو جميل ومثالي.”
ومن ناحيته، قال أليكس ديميتري، والد الطفلة:” إنها تريد أن تمهد الطريق أمام من فقدوا سيقانهم لدخول هذا المجال”.
وأضاف:” إنها تعمل حاليا للترويج لمنتجات شركة نايكي وبودن وماتالان، وتم اختيارها للفوز بجائزة أطفال الشجاعة في برمنغهام”.
وتابعت:”بالطبع قلت نعم.”

وستشارك ديزي في عرض الأزياء الذي سيقام في 8 سبتمبر/أيلول، ومثلت من قبل شركة لولو وجيجي كوتور في أسبوع الموضة للأطفال في لندن.
ويُشار الى أن ديزي ولدت وهي تعاني من مرض الهيميليا الليفية (انعدام النصف الشظوي للطرف)، إذ فقد جزء من العظم الليفي في الساق أو كلها، مما أدى إلى بتر ساقيها.
